Cambodia and Laos discovery 7 days

This unique journey combines the charm of two countries, creating an unforgettable riding experience.

We begin amidst the remnants of Angkor, venturing through breathtaking jungle trails to discover hidden temples rarely seen by tourists — mysterious and awe-inspiring as they appear before us. The adventure continues through picturesque countryside and quiet villages, where curious children often come out to catch a glimpse of the “monsters” rolling through their roads.

Our two-wheeled journey takes us along the majestic Mekong River, where we witness the lives of locals who reside on floating houses and boats. From there, we ride through stunning landscapes and tranquil rural areas toward Laos — where the magical beauty of the 4,000 Islands and untouched nature awaits our exploration.

Cambodia motor bike tour will start from Capital of Cambodia to the charming city of Siem Reap, where you will end up with beautiful finish in the charming town. Enjoy your own leisure in the city and explore the ancient empire.  Cambodia off road gives you the chance to visit the most remote temples that very few people get to see. This tour combines some of the best trail riding in the country with the opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful and remote temples in the world! You will get to visit the amazing temples of Beang Mealea, Koh ker, Preah Khan and Kulen mountain. This area has some of the most amazing trail riding and Siem Reap Dirt Bikes are the masters of this area!

Day 1 Siem Reap – Preh Khan Kampong Svay

Today, you will travel through the old capital and explore the Preah Khan temple complex, located deep within a remote part of Cambodia. Your ride starts northward on a sandy track, offering a firsthand experience of rural Cambodian life and its friendly locals. Along the way, you’ll encounter several ancient Khmer bridges, remnants of the region’s rich history.

Enjoy lunch at a local eatery before continuing your journey approximately 25 km through remote bushland. Your day ends at a traditional Khmer homestay, where you’ll cap off the adventure with a memorable visit to the magnificent Preah Khan temple.

Day 2 Prek Khan – Kulen

Today, we’ll ride along an ancient trail that once connected capital to capital via a single jungle path. Leaving the former capital behind, we’ll follow a rough, sandy track toward Tra Pang Prasat. Travel may take longer during the rainy season, as the trail becomes slippery.

Take some time to enjoy a short sightseeing tour before deciding whether to stop for lunch here or continue onward. We’ll then head to the hidden temple of Koh Ker for a water break, before making the final stretch of the ride to the guesthouse in Kulen community.

Day 3 Kulen – Kampong Sraloa (Laos border)

Today, there are two destination options, depending on the group’s preference. For more experienced riders, we can take a sandy single track through the forest, with the option to switch to red dirt roads if the group gets tired, leading us all the way to Kompong Sralao on the Lao border.

Alternatively, there’s a slightly easier route that winds through jungle trails and continues on red dirt roads to Stung Treng. From there, a ferry crossing over the Mekong River will bring us to the gateway of the mountainous hill tribe regions.

We’ll stay in a hotel with air-conditioning and hot water, though there’s also an option for a home-stay near the Laos border—an extra 30-kilometer ride for those seeking a more immersive local experience.

Day 4 Kampong Sraloa – Stueng Treng

After a refreshing morning by the Mekong River, we head east toward Stung Treng. From there, you’ll ride along the river through scenic cashew farms. This area offers plenty of off-road options, ranging from easy to challenging, before connecting to the main highway. We then follow a tarmac road straight into the province.

Day 5 Stueng Treng – 4000 island

Breakfast in Stung Treng. After checking our passports, we check out of the hotel and begin our 57 km ride to the border at Trapaeng Kriel. There, we’ll go through immigration and obtain our Laos visas at the Laos immigration office (please prepare one passport-sized photo).

We’ll stop for lunch at Khone Phapheng, near the Cambodia–Laos border. This waterfall is one of the largest in Southeast Asia and a breathtaking sight.

In the afternoon, we continue riding to Don Det, one of the islands in the 4,000 Islands region. Overnight stay will be on Don Khong.

Day 6 4000 island – Pakse

Today, we take the sandy trail to make your ride even more exciting. As you journey through one of the remote regions of Laos, you’ll be greeted by many friendly locals saying “Sabai Dee!” (which means “Hello” in English). After the sandy section, the path transitions to a red dirt road as we get closer to Pakse. We may arrive in the city a bit early, so feel free to take a short walk to the river to unwind and refresh before enjoying a delicious dinner.

Day 7 Pakse – Border tour end

Today, we’ll head back toward the border, where you’ll say goodbye to your guide. The journey begins on a tarmac road before transitioning into a bush section. From there, you’ll ride east along a single track toward the Khmer-Laos border. After spending a few hours exploring the Lao countryside, we’ll return to the main road for lunch. As there aren’t many options in this area, we’ll enjoy a simple local meal of sticky rice and meat. After lunch, we’ll continue directly to the border, marking the end of the tour. From there, a Lao vehicle will transfer you to your hotel.

OUR PHOTOS

Where we stay?

We mix our accommodation between comfortable, clean guest houses and remote Village home stays. Staying in village home stays is a real experience however after a few days of riding you will be ready for a comfy bed, warm shower and a good nights sleep.

Where and what will we eat?

Cambodiaoffroad do not include food or drinks in our tour packages, the reason why we don’t know what and how much you will consume so its best you pay your way.

On single day tours you will have lunch at the local clean restaurants serving good Khmer food.

Multi day tour

On multi day Cambodia motor bike tour things are a little different, we do where possible have lunch in a restaurant, however our tours are not like others and we spend most of the day on trails in extremely remote areas where restaurants are just not heard of, this does not stop our guides from organizing lunch in local villages which is a real experience!

Evenings are not a problem in the home stays we have good home cooked food and in the towns we know where to find the most delicious local specialties.

What back pack should I use?

The trick over here is to travel light. Its no fashion show out there so don’t worry about lots of changes of clothes bring with you only the necessitates. A hydro-backpack holding 2-3 liters of water is ideal or a small-medium sized rucksack than has room to carry bottled water.

What about land mines, malaria and safety?

It safe to ride thru the remote Cambodia as MAG cleared most mines from land and Most of the mines that remain are around the border areas and we are always informed by the local authority about the risk.

Cambodia off road have accessed mined area maps from CMAC and avoid all high risk areas for the Cambodia motor bike tour.

There is a risk from Malaria in certain areas in Cambodia so don’t forget the mosquito spray and if you feel it necessary a course of malaria tablets.

In regards to civil unrest it has been many years since the Khmer Rouge occupied Cambodia and although we do travel through ares where many former Khmer Rouge soldiers and leaders settled it is completely safe. Also the conflict at the border with Thailand has also ended making the trip to Preah Veaher temple also safe.

Do you supply riding gear?

Cambodia off road includes all riding gear in the tour price. This makes it easy for those of you who had not planed to ride whilst on holiday. We include helmet, gloves, enduro boots, goggles, pads, trousers and shirt.

Many who come on longer planned tours prefer to bring there own gear, we recommend this as its far more comfortable in your own boots!

What about money matters? (During the Cambodia motor bike Tour)

Cambodia runs on two currencies the American Dollar and the Cambodian Riel. You will not be able to get Riel in your own country so bring Dollars with you.

Before you go on tour change some of your dollars into Riel as we head into remote areas where US dollars are often not accepted.

We reckon that on average you need around $20-$30 a day for your food and drinks. Atm’s are available in the major towns but don’t rely on these on tour. We also request full payment before we leave on tour so be sure to bring it with you.

US dollars are accepted the whole Cambodia with small note!

Reviewed April 5, 2019 Dirt Biking, the best way to explore a country and meet the locals.

This trip blew me away and I have not stopped banging on about it since. It starts off in busy Siem Reap, winding your way through mopeds, tourist cars and buses, and then it’s out into the country side, and the dusty trails. We passed through remote villages, rice paddies, along dried river beds, stopping at lake villages, and road side shacks selling cold water and bottles of petrol. Our excellent guide Visal, takes care of everything and throws in some interesting information about local culture and history. Just riding the bikes is fun enough, let alone what you see along the way, and coming across hidden temples in the jungle is a serious life highlight. I highly recommend this tour!!Cambodia motor bike tour
