Day 1 : Siem Reap to Anlong Veng – A Journey Through History and Adventure

Begin your ride by departing Siem Reap, traversing scenic countryside trails for a brief sightseeing stop. Then, embark on a thrilling single-track ride along ancient paths leading to the secluded Banteay Ampil temple, where you’ll pause for a jungle rest. Afterward, rev up your two-wheeled beast and head north toward the majestic Kulen National Park.

Following a morning briefing from your guide, continue your journey to the first impression at the former Khmer temple being called Banteay Ampil. Banteay Ampil temple, located near the ancient Angkorian road, is believed to have been constructed in the mid-12th century, likely during the reign of Suryavarman II, similar to the nearby Beng Melea and Angkor Wat. It’s thought to have been built in a style characteristic of the early to mid-12th century, with influences from Angkor Wat’s architecture. While lacking the intricate carvings found at some other temples, Banteay Ampil is notable for its atmosphere, with dense forest growth and vines obscuring some of the remaining details.

After visiting the temple site, head north through the well-observed bush track, eventually reaching the tarmac road for lunch. If time permits, explore the single track through the observation bush track near Kulen Mountain before heading north to Anlong Veng on the tarmac road.

Anlong Veng, located 125 km north of Siem Reap near the Thai border, was the last stronghold of the Khmer Rouge regime. After the regime’s fall in 1979, it served as a base for the Khmer Rouge’s final resistance until their surrender in 1998. Today, Anlong Veng is a symbol of Cambodia’s journey from conflict to peace.

Distance : 120 km ride

Day 2 : ANLONG VENG – KOH KER

After a hearty local breakfast, embark on a journey northward toward the Cambodia–Thailand border. Ride along the scenic Dângrêk mountain range, tracing the path once frequented by the Khmer Rouge. Your first stop is the former residence of Pol Pot, the last leader of the Khmer Rouge regime. Explore the modest structure that once served as his hideout, offering a glimpse into the final days of the regime.

Following the visit, return to Anlong Veng for a refreshing fruit and drink break. Then, venture onto a remote countryside trail that winds through local villages, providing an authentic rural Cambodian experience.

After a well-deserved lunch at Trapang Prasat, continue your ride on a red dirt road for approximately 30 minutes to reach a former hill tribe village. From there, head east to the ancient capital of Koh Ker, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its historical and architectural significance.

Koh Ker served as the capital of the Khmer Empire from 928 to 944 CE under King Jayavarman IV. The site boasts over 180 sanctuaries, including the iconic seven-tiered pyramid temple, Prasat Thom, which rises approximately 35 meters above the surrounding jungle. The Koh Ker style is characterized by dynamic sculptures and monumental stone structures, reflecting the grandeur of the Khmer civilization

Upon arrival, explore the temple complex and immerse yourself in the rich history of this ancient city. Conclude the day with a restful overnight stay and a traditional Khmer dinner, reflecting on the day’s adventures and the deep historical insights gained.

Distance : 100 km ride

Day 3: KOH KER – PREH KHAN

As the sun rises, our grand adventure begins anew today, taking us along Cambodia’s most breathtaking countryside vistas to Preah Khan Temple. Once the capital following the fall of Angkor, Preah Khan was constructed in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII to honor his father, King Dharanindravarman II. The temple complex, known as Nagara Jayasri, was a thriving city with over 100,000 inhabitants, serving as a Buddhist university and administrative center .

Our journey follows a single-track trail through Cambodia’s dense jungle, leading us toward the Kulen community. This immersive experience offers a glimpse into authentic rural life, with scenes of tranquil villages and diverse plantations, including rubber, tobacco, jackfruit, cashew nuts, and bananas—perfect for capturing memorable photographs.

The day’s ride is further enhanced by our bikes navigating primarily dirt tracks, transitioning from one scenic spot to another, making the journey both easier and more engaging. As we continue deeper into the jungle and villages, we’ll encounter rubber plantations and cashew farms, providing insight into the rural livelihoods of Cambodians. Our route then heads southwest for several kilometers on a red dirt road to reach the Preah Khan community.

Where we stay?

We mix our accommodation between comfortable, clean guest houses and remote Village home stays. Staying in village home stays is a real experience however after a few days of riding you will be ready for a comfy bed, warm shower and a good nights sleep.

Where and what will we eat?

Cambodiaoffroad do not include food or drinks in our tour packages, the reason why we don’t know what and how much you will consume so its best you pay your way.

On single day tours you will have lunch at the local clean restaurants serving good Khmer food.

Multi day tour

On multi day tours things are a little different, we do where possible have lunch in a restaurant, however our tours are not like others and we spend most of the day on trails in extremely remote areas where restaurants are just not heard of, this does not stop our guides from organizing lunch in local villages which is a real experience!

Evenings are not a problem in the home stays we have good home cooked food and in the towns we know where to find the most delicious local specialties.

What back pack should I use?

The trick over here is to travel light. Its no fashion show out there so don’t worry about lots of changes of clothes bring with you only the necessitates. A hydro-backpack holding 2-3 liters of water is ideal or a small-medium sized rucksack than has room to carry bottled water.

What about land mines, malaria and safety?

It safe to ride thru the remote Cambodia as MAG cleared most mines from land and Most of the mines that remain are around the border areas and we are always informed by the local authority about the risk.

Cambodia off road have accessed mined area maps from CMAC and avoid all high risk areas.

There is a risk from Malaria in certain areas in Cambodia so don’t forget the mosquito spray and if you feel it necessary a course of malaria tablets.

In regards to civil unrest it has been many years since the Khmer Rouge occupied Cambodia and although we do travel through ares where many former Khmer Rouge soldiers and leaders settled it is completely safe. Also the conflict at the border with Thailand has also ended making the trip to Preah Veaher temple also safe.

Do you supply riding gear?

Cambodia off road includes all riding gear in the tour price. This makes it easy for those of you who had not planed to ride whilst on holiday. We include helmet, gloves, enduro boots, goggles, pads, trousers and shirt.

Many who come on longer planned tours prefer to bring there own gear, we recommend this as its far more comfortable in your own boots!

What about money matters?

Cambodia runs on two currencies the American Dollar and the Cambodian Riel. You will not be able to get Riel in your own country so bring Dollars with you.

Before you go on tour change some of your dollars into Riel as we head into remote areas where US dollars are often not accepted.

We reckon that on average you need around $20-$30 a day for your food and drinks. Atm’s are available in the major towns but don’t rely on these on tour. We also request full payment before we leave on tour so be sure to bring it with you.
